How to choose the right grind size
Whole Bean
Best for Maximum Freshness
"The gold standard for coffee lovers who want complete control over their brewing experience. Whole beans lock in flavor and aroma until the moment you grind, ensuring peak freshness for every cup. Perfect for those who appreciate the ritual of grinding fresh and want their coffee to taste exactly as our roaster intended."
Best for: Any brewing method | Maximum flavor retention | Coffee enthusiasts who grind at home
Coarse Grind
Best for Bold, Clean Brewing
Pre-ground to the perfect consistency for methods that love a longer extraction time. This coarse grind unlocks the full body and complexity of your coffee while maintaining clarity and preventing over-extraction. Ideal for those who want consistent results without the guesswork.
Best for: French Press | Pour-over | Cold brew | Traditional drip coffee makers
Fine Grind
Best for Rich, Concentrated Coffee
"Precision-ground for brewing methods that demand maximum extraction in minimal time. This fine grind creates the perfect resistance for pressure-based brewing, delivering rich, concentrated coffee with beautiful crema and full-bodied flavor that stands up to milk or shines on its own."
Best for: Espresso machines | Moka pot | AeroPress (shorter brew times) | Turkish coffee

Brewing Tips
Time to dial in
Every coffee tells a different story, and every brewing method brings out unique characteristics. Each coffee shines differently in a V60 than it does in a French press – and that's exactly how it should be.
Whether you're pulling espresso shots, brewing pour-over, or experimenting with cold brew, the key is understanding how grind size, water temperature, and timing work together to unlock each bean's potential.

The Difference Behind Your Cup
Every bag of Solid Coffee connects you directly to farms that treat coffee growing as both art and livelihood. Unlike mass-produced coffees that prioritize volume over quality, our single origins come from growers who measure success in flavor, not just yield. Whether it's a smallholder farm or a larger estate, we partner with producers who have the dedication to experiment with processing methods, focus on sustainable practices, and maintain the kind of attention to detail that transforms good coffee into exceptional experiences.

FAQs
What's the difference between Solid coffee and what I buy at the grocery store?
Grocery store coffee is often roasted many months before you buy it and sits on shelves losing flavor every day. Our coffee is roasted-to-order within 48 hours of shipping, ensuring you get beans at peak freshness. We also source from specific farms and regions, not commodity blends or mass produced farms, so each cup has distinct character and traceability.
Why does your coffee cost more than mass-market brands?
Mass-market coffee prioritizes volume and shelf-stability over flavor. We invest in direct relationships with quality-focused farms, small-batch roasting, rigorous testing, and fresh delivery. You're paying for craft, consistency, and the difference you can actually taste – not marketing budgets and warehouse storage.
Where is the expiration date?
Coffee is best enjoyed 7-30 days from roast date for optimal flavor. Grocery stores are required to have a "best by" date, and typically these coffees will set a date 6+ months past roast. Typically they leave the roast date off the bag, and have tricked consumers to believe any homemade coffee is "fresh." Although, real fresh coffee retains its natural oils, aromatics, and complex flavors. Now, that's the experience worth paying for.
Can I really taste the difference between beans?
Absolutely. Single origins showcase unique characteristics from each region and altitude. Our blends are crafted flavor profiles that harmonize multiple origins.
Different altitudes will affect the way we roast each coffee bean in order to maximize their unique flavor profiles. The way you brew your cup also plays a huge role in a solid tasting cup of joe.
Is specialty coffee just for "coffee snobs"?
Not at all. Specialty coffee is simply coffee that's been grown, processed, and roasted with intention. If you can taste the difference between good wine and box wine, you can taste the difference here. We're not trying to be exclusive – we're trying to bridge the gap between intimidating coffee culture and genuinely better coffee that anyone can enjoy.
Does grind size really matter?
Yes – grind size affects extraction and flavor dramatically. Whole bean is always best for freshness, but our pre-ground options are ground fresh to order for convenience. We recommend investing in a conical burr grinder for your home brewing if you're serious about leveling up your brewing!
